Art Nouveau

A newcomer to the Art Nouveau period, 1890-1910, could be instructed to visualize "sensuous lines, flowing lines, lines which bend and turn back" to "..think of the feminine form, rounded and curving, of plant forms growing and burgeoning, of flowers in bud, in overgrown blossom" and it would be this that would give one the insight into such a creative moment in time.

Walter Crane and William Morris were the English artists who advocated Art Nouveau. It was a period in time where all domestic items celebrated craftsmanship and nature and protested against the machine age and crude reproductions of eras past.

Their ideas were expressed in architecture, interiors, ceramics, glass and posters. Literally everything was affected by it.

For collectors of the period it is names like Charles Rennie Mackintosh, William Morris, Aubrey Beardsley, Lalique, Daum, Tiffany, Galle, Moorcroft, Foley & Wileman, Lotz, Zsolnay and WMF among so many more that are truly exciting.
