Royal Winton Pottery

Royal Winton began its days as Grimwades in 1885, founded by the Grimwade Brothers at the Winton Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent, England.

Catalogues from the period show they were producing a range of domestic wares, concentrating on toilet seats, wash stand jugs and chamber pots.

In March 1900 there was an amalgamation of potteries that resulted in Grimwades Ltd. Expansion continued at a great rate with Grimwades acquiring several more properties that permitted the higher production rates they required.

During the early part of the twentieth century they went on to produce wide and varied, imaginative ranges in decorative and table ware. Chintz patterns, Nursery Themes, Cottage Ware, Relief Moulded Ware, a Pastel Range, Hand Painted pieces and Art Deco Lustre and Geometric Wares are to name a few. The takeover of Grimwades in 1964 by Howard Potteries saw the end of an era.
