Collectible Silver AntiquesWithin our Silver Category we have interesting and unusual, practical and decorative wares.
In the early Victorian years older Renaissance and French styles influenced designs that were often elaborate and excessive. However the British Guild of Handicraft of 1888-1908 challenged this excessiveness, with a retreat from mass produced items, and a focus on hand made pieces that were naturalistic in design. American silversmiths of the same period included Gorham and Tiffany & Co. While in Europe, W.M.F lead the market with truly beautiful Art Nouveau motifs, and later Georg Jensen and Christofle with their modernist designs. Hallmarking was introduced in Europe in the fifteenth century and tells us a lot about an item, where possible we have included the details of these markings on each piece.
